⚙️ What is the gear (shift) sensor and do I need it?

Bafang gear shift sensor for BBS02 and BBSHD

The gear sensor mounts inline on your shifter cable and momentarily cuts motor power (~0.8s) the instant you shift, so the shift completes without the motor hammering the chain and cassette. The payoff is a buttery-smooth shift and much longer drivetrain life.

It's optional but strongly recommended — especially on the BBSHD, where the extra torque is hard on gears. Honestly, once you ride with one you won't want to go back. If you skip it, just learn to ease off the pedals/throttle for a beat when you shift.

Shop the Bafang Gear Sensor, and see the full gear sensor installation guide.
