๐Ÿ›‘ Brake Cutoff (E-Brake) Sensor Install

Bafang brake levers with built-in e-brake cutoff sensors

Bafang PAS is cadence-based, meaning the motor keeps pushing for a moment after you stop pedaling. Brake cutoff sensors are the safety net that kills motor power the instant you brake. Recommended for every build.

  • Mechanical/cable brake users typically use the included brake levers with built-in cutoff switches โ€” swap them in for your existing levers.
  • Hydraulic brake users can't swap levers, so use the magnetic e-brake sensor type: mount a small sensor on the lever body and a magnet on the moving lever so the magnet passes the sensor when you pull the brake.
  • Route each sensor's Higo plug to the left/right brake leads on the harness, aligning the arrows.
  • Test both brakes with the wheel off the ground: pulling either lever must cut the motor. If a brake stays engaged (Error 25 / motor won't run), unplug the brake sensors one at a time to isolate a stuck switch.
