Your Bafang kit is water-resistant, not waterproof โ€” it will happily handle rain and puddles, but it is not built to be submerged or blasted with water. Ride smart in the wet and everything lasts.

Riding in the rain
  • Riding in rain and light snow is fine. The motor, controller, and display are sealed against splashing and normal weather.
  • Never ride through water deep enough to submerge the motor or connectors. The controller's electronics sit at the low point of the motor case, so standing water is the real risk โ€” not a bit of rain from above.
Cleaning and storage
  • Never pressure-wash your ebike and never just hose it down. High-pressure water drives moisture straight past the seals into the motor and connectors. (See the cleaning article below for the right way.)
  • Store the bike indoors or under cover. Don't leave it out in wet weather for long stretches. If you must park it outside briefly in rain, throw a tarp over it and remove the tarp afterward so trapped moisture can dry.
Extra protection for frequent foul-weather riders
  • If you regularly ride in heavy rain or snow, applying dielectric grease to the connectors and a bead of silicone sealant at the motor and battery joints adds a real layer of protection against water intrusion.
  • The full-color DPC-18 and 500C displays seal against weather better than the basic C961 โ€” but none of them should ever be submerged.
If your bike ever does get caught in a soaking, let it dry out fully before powering on, and check connectors for moisture.
