๐Ÿ”Œ Charging Your Battery & Charger Instructions

Charging your Bafang pack is genuinely easy โ€” the battery's built-in BMS (Battery Management System) and the smart charger do the hard work of stopping automatically when the pack is full. Follow these steps every time and you will get years of reliable range.

Before you plug in

  • Charge indoors at room temperature, roughly 50โ€“77ยฐF (10โ€“25ยฐC). Never charge a battery that is below freezing (32ยฐF / 0ยฐC) โ€” let a cold pack warm up to room temperature first.
  • Charge on a hard, non-flammable surface (concrete, tile, a metal bench) with clear space around the charger. Do not charge on a bed, couch, carpet, or pile of paper. This is the single most important safety habit, and it is a big part of why our packs have a perfect safety record.
  • Make sure the ebike/kit is powered completely off.
  • If your pack got warm from a long ride, let it cool for 20โ€“30 minutes before charging.

Plug-in order

  • Set the charger on a flat, secure surface.
  • Plug the charger into the wall (AC) outlet first.
  • If your battery has an on/off switch, turn it off.
  • Remove the rubber cover from the battery's charge port and connect the charger's DC output plug.
  • When charging is finished, unplug from the wall first, then disconnect from the battery.

Reading the charger lights

  • 2-amp charger (single light) โ€” Light pattern: Red ยท What it means: Charging
  • 2-amp charger (single light) โ€” Light pattern: Green ยท What it means: Charger has power but no battery connected, or the battery is fully charged
  • 3-amp smart charger (two lights) โ€” Light pattern: Both red ยท What it means: Charging
  • 3-amp smart charger (two lights) โ€” Light pattern: One red + one green ยท What it means: Charger has power with no battery, or the pack is full
  • Battery itself โ€” Light pattern: 3 green + 1 red ยท What it means: Fully charged
On the battery, the green lights drop off progressively as you use up charge.

Safety musts

  • Never cover the charger while it is running โ€” it needs ventilation to shed heat.
  • Never leave a battery charging unattended, and unplug it once it is full.
  • Keep the charger away from children and pets.
  • Use only the charger that matches your pack's voltage (more on that below).

Matching your charger to your pack โ€” never mix voltages

โš ๏ธ Never: use a 54.6V charger on a 52V pack (or vice-versa).

A 48V (13S) pack charges to 54.6V and needs a 54.6V charger. A 52V (14S) pack charges to 58.8V and needs a 58.8V charger. These are not interchangeable. Putting a 58.8V charger on a 48V pack overcharges it and is a fire risk โ€” the BMS should block it, but you should never rely on that as your safety net. Always confirm the charger's output voltage matches your battery before plugging in.
